September - Gift of Work

“In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.”  Acts 20:35

September 2019

Dear Friends,

This month’s topic is the Gift of Work. Jim Stovall has been quoted as saying, “He who loves his work never labors.” That certainly rings true in reference to someone’s vocation in the world’s economy and it also rings true for service and labor in God’s economy. What greater work is there than caring for our family and community and body of Christ just as Jesus cared for us.

We hope you will be inspired to take action this month by working to serve one another and those around you, either by using our examples below or coming up with your own. We’d love to hear the impact you made this month too! Please email or share your stories with us!

Blessings,

The Team at Legacy Planning Advisors, LLC.

The Gift of Work

There is a popular saying, ‘it takes lots of work to make the world go round’.  It also takes diverse skills to get the work done.

For example, it takes architects, carpenters, electricians, plumbers and more to construct a simple house.  The food that nourishes our body requires work from many people, from seed to the shopping cart.  It takes a variety of people to make our communities run smoothly, people who love their jobs and people who make the most of theirs – from the simplest to the most complex.

We all want satisfaction from work and can attain it when each one puts his/her heart into the work giving 100%.  The focus this month is to find how we can apply the Gift of Work to the family while maintaining a healthy balance between the job, personal needs, and family.

Together We Make a Difference

What is more satisfying than a day with friends, family, or coworkers working together for a common goal?  Working together can be really rewarding when we are making a difference in the lives of others.

If you ever thought of a neighborhood cleanup, planting a tree, or cleaning and repairing for a needy family, now is the time to take action.  Call your local fire department, community center, church, or check online for a project.

Get your family or team together and choose your projects such as adopt-a-mile, plant a tree, wheels on meals or something else.  You will be content at the end of the day knowing that you made a difference and the best part is celebrating with a potluck.

Imagine what it was like years ago when townspeople came together for a barn raising.  Working together for a common purpose beyond oneself is truly a gift for all involved.

“and everyone who was willing and whose heart moved him came and brought an offering to the LORD for the work on the Tent of Meeting, for all its service, and for the sacred garments.” Exodus 35:21

The Bountiful Basket

Start a new tradition by working together as a family all month for a good cause.

Decide on a recipient for a Bountiful Basket.  The goal is to have an empty basket filled within a month and given away for a worthy cause such as the homeless shelter, food pantry, or hospital.  Make it sacrificial and fun.  Skip desserts, movie, etc., or have the children do extra chores for money that is applied toward the basket.

At the end of the month, someone will have a basket filled with goodies and your family will have hearts filled with joy.  Working together to help the less fortunate will teach your children the true value of work and money and bring the family closer together.
