Whose is it anyway and what am I supposed to do with it? A blog for kids - By Jennifer Hester Hall

Kids, do you think the money your parents give you in allowance or that you earn doing chores is yours? What about your time? What about all those things you are really good at? Does any of that really belong you? Well, God’s Word says that, “The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it.” The world and all its people belong to Him.” (Psalm 24:1) It also says, “To the Lord your God belong the heavens, even the highest heavens, the earth and everything in it.” (Deuteronomy 10:14)

Once you know that everything belongs to God, then you can see yourself as someone that looks after the things that God has provided for you. This is called being a “steward.” God has given you a lot. He has given you life. He has given you your family. God has given you a great world to live in and friends to share it with. God commands you to be a responsible stewards and to take care of everything He has given you. His Word says, “Guard, through the Holy Spirit who dwells in us, the treasure which has been entrusted to you.” (2 Timothy 1:14) Not only does this refer to money but it also refers to your time and your talents (those things you are good at)!

So, what are a few ways you can be a good steward?

  • Share yourself in prayer, service and giving. There’s nothing too big or too small for God.
  • God gives everyone the ability to do something well. Use your abilities to serve your family, church and school.
  • Be giving of what God has given you. Give your time, talent and treasure. Give to make your world, your church and your school a better place.
